President commissions Ndola Hospital Zambia

During a visit to the region, HE President Hakainde Hichilema officially commissioned the Chifubu Level One Hospital in Ndola, Copperbelt Province on 14 April 2024.

Hundreds attended the event, including local residents, distinguished guests, district elders and Chiefs, as well as the Hon. Minister of Health, Sylvia Masebo; Hon. Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Tayali; Hon. Minister of Youth, Sports and Arts, Elvis Nkandu; Copperbelt Minister, Hon. Elisha Matambo; Chifubu Member of Parliament, Hon. Lloyd Lubozha; and representing NMSI: Alistair Johnston and Iain Maclean.

Making reference to the new hospital, President Hichilema stated that his administration is working hard to ensure that service delivery across the country is enhanced: “the commissioning is a step towards providing quality services in healthcare and other sectors in the community”.

The Minister of Health added that the new 80-bed hospital has been equipped with state-of-the-art technology and the number of health workers has been increased from 133 to 300. She also said that 44 volunteers will be offered permanent jobs at the hospital.

Chifubu MP Lloyd Lubozha thanked everyone involved in the development of the hospital crediting well-advised resource management to extend health service delivery to more remote areas.

The commissioning of the hospital comes a few days after the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) confirmed that it has reached the World Health Organisation (WHO) standard of 70% drug availability at its central medical warehouse.
